What a day!
Wow what a day we have had. I know so many of you have been anxiously awaiting news on the twins! We had a "textbook" day according to the doctor until about 3:00. At that point we had been pushing for about an hour and things hadn't progressed quite like we wanted. At 3:45 they decided the girl was turned sideways and needed to move. The Dr. tried to turn her but she wouldn't budge. So he said he would give us 45 mins to push and see if she would turn. So with some great pushing from Rachel and great nursing from our nurses, she turned and was crowning at 4:45. We then moved into the OR and Rachel did some mega pushing and delivered a 5 lb 13 oz beautiful baby girl at 5:19. So after 3 hours of hard pushing we had our first child. 4 mins later a handsome 5 lb 12 oz baby boy was born. The girl was calm and quiet while the boy was screaming quite steadily. Everything was going great and Rachel was about to try and feed when she started to feel nauseous and faint. She had a temperature and became quite lethargic. It ended up that her placenta did not totally deliver. We thought we had things under control 2 separate times but finally the doctor had to go in and remove the remaining tissue. This was a very scary time. Rachel was quite sick and had me quite scared. Meanwhile the babies are doing well although baby boy had to go to the NICU for a few hours because of "grunting" Due to Rachel's illness I have know idea what was going on but the wonderful staff at Brookwood had them well cared for. Rachel finally started to stabilize about 8:30 or so and is now resting well with baby girl in her arms. I apologize for not being able to respond and keep people informed but a long day of pushing and taking care of a sick wife made it impossible. I also apologize for not posting names yet but Rachel would like to tell some of her friends still so I will not post until she does so. If you know the names please refrain from posting until you see us post. Thanks and please continue to remember us in your prayers.
